TNEA 2022
Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) is a type of entrance examination which is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai. The examination is conducted for the aspirants who want to take admission in undergraduate-level courses at various engineering colleges of the state. The candidates who are willing to take admission in an undergraduate degree in various colleges present in the state will have to go through the TNEA examination first. The admission will be given to the students based upon the result of the examination and the marks that they have got in their class 12th examination. For registering for the TNEA 2021, the candidates will have to go to the official website of the organization and register themselves. The candidates can get admission in B.Tech and BE courses using this examination.
Registration Commences For The Session 2022-23
On 26 July 2021 TNEA admissions for the session 2021-22 commenced. All those students who are interested in getting admission have to apply between 26 July 2021 to 24 August 2021 through the official website. Students are required to fill the application form which includes registration fees, payment, filling of personal details, academic information, etc. This year on the first day of commencement of the application procedure 25,611 students have applied for engineering seats (BE and BTech admissions). Out of these 25,611 students, 10,084 students have paid fees and 5354 students have uploaded their certificates. Last year on the first day 23,583 applications were received. Experts are of the opinion that this year admissions in engineering will be more compared to last year because of high scores in class 12th. Other than that the directorate of technical education has set up 51 TNEA facilitation centers throughout the state so that students can register themselves. The university will also conduct online counseling in four or five rounds and the certificates will also be verified online.

TNEA Eligibility Criteria
In order to successfully give the entrance examination you will have to follow the following eligibility criteria given below:-
Domicile Criteria
- Candidates who are native of Tamil Nadu state and have completed their intermediate (Class 12th) from the state of Tamil Nadu
- Candidates who do not belong to Tamil Nadu state, but have completed their intermediate (Class 12th) education from the state of Tamil Nadu
- The Candidates who belong to the state of Tamil Nadu, but have completed their intermediate (Class 12th) education from another state are also eligible to apply but they need to submit a native certificate as proof to the conducting authority.
- Candidates who are the children of employees working for the central government can also apply for TNEA 2022. However, they need to show the native certificate of their parents or guardians as proof of who has been serving the state of Tamil Nadu continuously for the last five years.
- Candidates whose parents are All India Service Tamil Nadu Cadre Officers are also eligible to apply for TNEA 2022.
Academic Qualifications
- Candidates must have passed their intermediate (Class 12th) or equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects
- The minimum marks required for TNEA admissions is 50% in Class 12th

Reservation For Sports Quota
- The candidate will be considered disabled with hearing ability of 40 Decibels and above only in the better ear with a speech discrimination score of 50 % and above.
- With a low vision of 40% and above, the candidate is considered disabled and hence is eligible for claiming Engineering Admission against the Differently Abled Person category.
- The candidate has a low vision when his/her sight is less than 6/18 to 6/60 with the best correction in the better eye. One-eyed persons with normal vision are not considered as disabled.

- The candidates who do not have an internet connection can use the TFCs which will help them register for the exam.

Second Step
- Candidates who have successfully registered for the exam, have to pay the counselling fee as per their category. The counselling fee for different categories are as follows:
- General/OBC – Rs. 500
- SC/ST – Rs. 250
- For each special reservation category – Rs. 100
- Now the candidates will have to fill in their basic details such as details of the nativity, nationality, category, marks of qualifying examination and board name within a given period of time.
- The candidates will have to successfully submit the duly filled application form to their concerned organisation or institution.
- All the registered candidates will be allotted a 10 digit random number.
- The purpose of the random number of TNEA 2021 is to help break the deadlock between candidates if there is a tie even after exhausting all tie-breaking rules.
Third Step
- The candidates will now be required to go to the TFCs with their application, original certificates and their photocopies.
- Students will be given a week’s time to choose the closest TFC which can be in any district across the state.
- During this time, students will also be handed out a booklet with information of all colleges, seats and courses. This handbook will also be available online. Besides this, a video too will be displayed at the TFCs instructing the process to guide students.
- The candidates will have to carry important documents including-
- High school marksheet
- Intermediate marksheet
- Photo identity proof like Aadhaar card, election ID card, driving licence
- Transfer certificate from the last school attended
- Nativity certificate (in case applicable)

Fifth Step
- Now, the real counselling procedure will commence.
- The counselling will comprise of four to five rounds.
- Each round will be held over 5 days where candidates will have three days to enter their tentative option (college/course). They may take the next two days to confirm the allotment given to them.
- Students will have the option to carry this process online but they can also approach the TFCs for the same.
- At this stage, aspirants will be required to pay a sum of Rs. 5,000 (1,000 for SC/SCA/ST) as initial deposit for college admissions.
- During each stage, SMS, as well as an email alert, will be sent to candidates.
- The TNEA cutoff will also be released for all rounds of counselling.
- Separate cut off marks will be released by the authorities according to the round of counselling.
- The authority will release the first list of TNEA 2021 seat allotment. The list of candidates will be prepared solely on the basis of merit list prepared by the authority, choices filled and category of the candidate.
- Candidates have to login to their TNEA account to see the result of seat allotment. Candidates can either accept the seat or surrender the seat to participate in the next round of seat allotment. After confirming the seat, candidates have to report to their respective institute/college of Tamil Nadu.
