Objectives of MHRD Scholarship
Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, Merit Cum Means, and Minority scholarships are all offered by the MHRD to deserving students. The ministry offers several MHRD Scholarships to help school and college students with financial needs. The entire number of scholarships is distributed among the State Education Boards based on the number of students qualifying from different boards around the country between the ages of 18 and 25. Scholarships are distributed in a 3:2:1 ratio by the State Education Board among Science, Commerce, and Humanities graduates.

Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for this scholarship is different for different types of scholarship. The applicants applying for this scholarship must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College and University students | The applicant must be enrolled in a regular medical or engineering program at an AICTE/ DCI/ MCI-affiliated institution. The individual’s total annual family income must not exceed INR 8,00,000 from all sources. In class 12, students must have qualified with at least 80% of marks. Applicants who are already receiving a scholarship are not eligible to apply. Applicants who are pursuing their education via distance learning or correspondence are not eligible to apply for the MHRD scholarship in India. |
Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for Jammu Kashmir | The applicant must be a resident of Jammu Kashmir. Candidates willing to study outside Jammu & Kashmir are also eligible to apply. Applicant must have qualified class 12/ 10+3, a diploma from the J&K board, CBSE, or J&K state polytechnic. National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE) | The applicant must be a girl child belonging to SC/ ST studying in class 9. National Means cum Merit Scholarship | The MHRD scholarship is open for candidates studying in class 9 to continue their studies until class 10th-12th. The annual family income of the applicant must not exceed INR 1,50,000 from all sources. The applicant must have scored a minimum of 55% of marks in the class 8th examination (5% marks relaxation to SC/ ST students).To appear for the selection test for the scholarship, the candidate must have passed with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent in class 7th. |
Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) | Applicants studying in the first year or completing BTech, MTech, or integrated MSc from IIT / NIT/ IISc/ IISER can apply. Candidates must have taken admission in the first year of a technical degree/ diploma course at an AICTE recognized college. |
Chinese Government Scholarships | The scholarship is open for the undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, general scholar, and senior scholar level of studies. Undergraduate candidates must have qualified class 12 with a minimum of 60% marks and less than 25 years of age. General scholars must have completed at least two years of their undergraduate studies with 65% marks and below 45 years of age. Postgraduate candidates must have qualified at the undergraduate level with at least 60% marks and less than 35 years of age. Doctoral-level candidates must have passed postgraduation with at least 60% marks and should be less than 40 years of age. Senior scholars should be associate professors or have a postgraduate degree with at least 60% marks and below 60 years of age. |

Japanese Government Scholarships | This MHRD scholarship for Ph.D. students is open for research-level, master-level, and Ph.D. degrees. For a master’s degree and research level, the candidate must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 65% marks.
