Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy introduced the ‘YSR Free Crop Insurance’ scheme for the state’s farmers on December 15, 2020. This scheme would be available to farmers in the event of crop loss due to natural calamities for all recognized crops. There will be approximately 22 notified crops present. Farmers in our country lose crops every year as a result of natural calamities. To address the issues, the government has introduced the AP Free Crop Insurance scheme, which would offer farmers crop insurance. According to the election manifesto, the YS Congress is responsible for the development of farmers (rythu) and increasing farmer’s annual income. Previously, farmers had to pay a large amount to participate in the YSR Crop Insurance Scheme. However, under this policy, there is no need to pay the premium because the state and federal governments will cover the rest. The government of Andhra Pradesh has created a no-cost insurance scheme for farmers. This initiative will assist around 9.48 lakh farmers. Objectives of YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme 2023

The Scheme’s principal goal is to provide crop insurance coverage to all of the state’s farmers. All-natural calamities, such as heavy rains, droughts, and cyclones, will be included under this system. The government will compensate farmers for crops lost as a result of these natural disasters. The farmers are not obligated to pay any premiums under this policy. This will shield them from financial difficulties. The Scheme’s implementation will also offer more transparency to the process.

  • On December 15, 2020, The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy introduced the YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme 
  • Through the YSR Crop Insurance Scheme, the Andhra Pradesh government has provided crop insurance to farmers.
  • Crop loss due to natural disasters would be insured under this scheme.
  • The initiative has covered approximately 22 notified crops.

  • Applicants must be permanent citizens of Andhra Pradesh State.
  • The candidate applying for Free Crop Insurance must be a farmer who has not taken out any other crop insurance in the state.

  • First of all, go to the official website of the department of agriculture, the government of Andhra Pradesh, i.e., https://apagrisnet.gov.in/.
  • On the homepage of the website, click on the beneficiary list.
  • A new page will open on the screen.
  • Select the required details like District, Mandal, Village, Block, etc.
  • Now click on the Submit button.
  • Once you click on the submit button, the beneficiary list will open on the screen.

Steps to Check Your Payment Status

Farmers can check the YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme status by following the below-given steps:

  • First of all, take your passbook to your bank branch.
  • After that print your passbook.
  • You can either print your passbook yourself or have it printed by a Bank representative.
  • Now check, if you’ve received the insurance amount or not.
  • You can also go straight to a bank representative and ask about the scheme reward amount by providing your account number.
  • the bank representative will inform you whether or not you have received the benefit amount.

 Insurance Amount Released Under Free Crop Insurance Scheme

  • For Kharif-2020, a total of Rs 1820.23 crore has been announced for 15.15 lakh beneficiaries, with the Chief Minister pressing the button to deposit Rs 1310 crore into the accounts of 11.59 lakh farmers. 
  • Crop insurance will be provided by the state government under this scheme. 
  • The YSR government had already granted Rs 715 crore in insurance arrears for the year 2018-2019 and Rs 1,253 crore in free crop insurance compensation for the year 2019-20.
  • In just 23 months, the state government has spent over Rs 83,000 crore on farmers, establishing village secretariats for every 2,000 people in the state, as well as 10,778 RBKs.

Crop Insurance Premium Paid until now on a Claim

  • The Andhra Pradesh government has also paid a crop insurance premium of Rs 122.61 crore that the TDP government had held outstanding for the 2018-19 Rabi season. On June 26, 2020, this premium was paid. 
  • Following that, approximately Rs 596.26 crores are paid to 5.94 lakh farmers, while the Andhra Pradesh government has paid Rs 468 crore for Kharif 2019. 
  • The number of farmers covered by the Scheme rose from 2016 to 2020.
  • Farmers insured 17.79 lakh in 2016-17.
  • Farmers insured 18.22 lakh in 2017-18.
  • The number of farmers enrolled in the crop insurance scheme climbed to 49.50 lakh in 2019-20 from 24.83 lakh in 2018-19.

YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme Rythu Bharosa Kendras 

To assist farmers under the scheme, the Andhra Pradesh government developed 10641 Rythu Bharosa Kendra, which is associated with the village secretariat. Details of crop loss will be displayed at rythu Bharosa Kendra with the village secretariat in light of the Nivar cyclone. The farmers will be compensated by the end of December 2020.

  • Crop insurance:

The National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) has been in place since the Kharif 2000 season, intending to provide financial assistance to farmers in the case of crop loss due to a disaster, to regain credit eligibility for the following season, and stabilize farm incomes.

  • Farmers Covered: 

All farmers, including tenant farmers and sharecroppers, are entitled to join the Crop Insurance Scheme, regardless of whether they are marginal farmers, small farms, or large farmers. All loanee farmers are required to have Corp Insurance, but non-loanee farmers can opt-out.

  • Kharif 2013:

Paddy, Jowar, Bajra, Maize, Blackgram, Greengram, Redgram, Soybean, Groundnut (I), Groundnut (UI), Sunflower, Castor, Sugarcane (Plant), Sugarcane (Ratoon), Cotton (I), Cotton (UI), Chillies (I), Chillies (UI), Turmeric (UI), Korra (20) Crops.

  • Premium Subsidy:

Small and marginal farmers are eligible for a 10% premium subsidy.
