PM Modi highlighted the sector’s significance and scope, and on September 10, 2020, and formally announced the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana. The main targets of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana are as follows:
- In the fishing sector and related activities, create an additional 55 lakh direct and indirect gainful employment opportunities.
- By 2024-25, boost fish production by 70 lakh tonnes and increase fisheries export profits to Rs. 1,00,000 crores.

- Minimize post-harvest losses from 20 to 25 percent to around 10%.

PMMSY Eligibility Criteria
The Eligibility Criteria for Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana are as follows:
- PMMSY was established to benefit the country’s fisheries sector. As a result, all fishermen, as well as the targeted beneficiaries specified by the government, are entitled to apply.
- Beneficiaries must be at least 18 years old.
Eligibility Criteria
The following are some eligibility criteria for people trying to save fish during the fish lean / ban season under the activity “Livelihood & nutritional support for socio-economically backward, engaged traditional fishermen.
- Must be a full-time active fisherman.
- The age limit must be between 18 years to 60 years
- Must be a participant of a viable local fishermen’s cooperative association or Federation.
- The candidate must fall into the BPL category i.e., Below Poverty Line.
- Applicant must save Rs. 1500 in the bank for the duration of the fishing season, which is 9 months.

Once the applicants find themselves eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, they can proceed further. On the website, you may find a DPR (Detailed Project Report) template. Candidates must produce a DPR following their guidelines and as per the template’s format. Follow the below given step-by-step process to apply for Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana
- First of all, go to the official website of NFDB i.e., https://nfdb.gov.in/.
- On the home page of the website, click on the Templates option under the Quick Links section.
- A new page will open on the screen with two options i.e.,

- Now prepare a detailed report of your projects as per the given format

Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana Funding Pattern
The scheme of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana consists of two components through which the funding of the scheme is implemented. These components are as follows:

- Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS)

- The project’s complete budget will be covered by the federal government.
- The project’s recipients are not required to pay anything.
- The central government will offer to support up to 40% and 60% of the project cost to the General category and SC/ST/Women.
- In the case of beneficiary-oriented activities done by NFDB. The beneficiary will be responsible for the remainder of the cost.
