The PM Scholarship Scheme also known as Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme i.e., PMSS was established in the year 2006 – 2007. This scheme was established by the Welfare and Rehabilitation Board, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Since the government has established PM Scholarship Scheme 2023, it has affected and helped thousands of candidates to fulfill their dreams with ease. Every year Welfare and Rehabilitation Board, Ministry of Home Affairs comes with a total of 5500 scholarships under this scheme that are awarded to the deserving shortlisted candidates. The scheme is sponsored through the Prime Minister’s Office’s National Defence Fund.
For the PM Scholarship scheme the Welfare and Rehabilitation Board, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India shortlists serious and deserving candidates every year. Earlier the monthly PM Scholarship amount was Rs.2,250/- i.e., two thousand two hundred fifty rupees for female candidates and Rs.2,000/- i.e., two thousand rupees for male candidates but now the Government of India has increased the PM Scholarship amount to Rs.3,000/- i.e., three thousand rupees for female candidates per month and Rs.2,500/- i.e., two thousand five hundred rupees to male candidates per month. The payment is transferred to the deserving shortlisted candidates’ registered bank accounts via ECS. With the start of Academic Year 2016 – 2017, the plan moved from an offline mode to an online mode.
PM Scholarship Scheme 2023
The main objective of the PM Scholarship Scheme is to encourage widows and dependent children of deceased or ex-service people of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, State Police Personnel Railway Protection Force, Assam Rifles i.e., CAPFs and AR, Para Military Forces, etc to pursue their higher studies like professional and technical education, post-graduate studies and many more in various technical colleges and institutes like medical colleges, dental colleges, veterinary colleges, engineering colleges, MBA institutes, MCA institutes, and many other educational institutions which are recognized and approved by the AICTE or UGC council. In addition to these, more than 500 scholarships are awarded to the children of State Police officers killed in terror or Naxal attacks. PM Scholarship has helped many deserving candidates who were financially weak to continue their higher studies and fulfill their dreams and make their careers bright and secure.

PM Scholarship Scheme 2023 Eligibility
Applicants before filling up the PM Scholarship Application form need to check the following eligibility criteria. After fulfilling all the eligibility criteria applicants can proceed further:
- Applicant’s age must be in between 18 and 25 years.
- Applicant’s family income must not exceed Rs 6 lakh per annum.
- Candidates who are dependent children or widows of deceased CAPFs & ARs or Ex-CAPFs & ARs or retired and serving CAPFs & ARs or a State Police Personnel are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
- Applicants must have qualified 12th class, diploma, or graduation.
- Applicant must be enrolled in any of the eligible professional programs but must not be enrolled in any lateral entry or integrated programs.
- The applicants must have qualified for the examination with at least 60% of marks.
- To be eligible for renewal in consecutive years, applicants must score at least 50% of marks on the qualifying examination.
- The scholarship program also includes the wards of State Police officials who are or were martyred during Naxal or terror attacks, according to a recent decision made by the Government of India.
- Applicants who are currently pursuing Master’s Degree Courses are not eligible to apply for PM Scholarship Scheme.
- Applicants who are working and earn money from any source are not eligible to apply for PM Scholarship Scheme.
- Students who are studying outside the country are not eligible to apply for PM Scholarship Scheme.
- Applicants who are enrolled in a distance learning program are not eligible to apply for PM Scholarship Scheme.

Documents Required
The applicants applying for PM Scholarship Scheme need to submit the documents as proof along with their application form. The absence of any document will lead to the rejection of their form. The applicants are also advised to keep the scanned copy of their documents ready while filling up the application form. The documents required to apply for PM Scholarship Scheme are given in below:
- Qualification certificates like 12th class mark sheet, Graduation mark sheet, Diploma mark sheet, etc.
- In the case of serving personnel, a serving certificate issued by HOO is required.
- It is Mandatory for Category A to F to have a Certificate of PPO of Discharge/Book
- Death certifcate for deceased personnel is necessary.
- For disabled personnel certificate of Disabilities is necessary.
- For Gallantry Award winners Certificate of Gallantry is necessary.

PM Scholarship Scheme 2023 Apply Online
PM Scholarship Application Form will be available online mode only on the official website of NSP. The offline mode of filling the PM Scholarship Application Form will not be accepted. To fill the PM Scholarship Application Form, applicants need to follow the following step by step procedure:
STEP 1: Registration:
Before filling up the PM Scholarship Application Form, applicants need to do registration by below-given steps:
- First of all, go to the official website of NSP i.e., https://scholarships.gov.in/.
- On the homepage of the website, click on the New Registration option.
- After clicking on registration, the Guidelines for Registration page will open on your screen.
- Read all the instructions and guidelines carefully, mark the checkboxes to agree to the terms and conditions.
- Click on the continue button to proceed further.
- Now the registration page will open on your screen, fill in all the required details like the Applicants Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number, Email Id, Category, etc.
- Click on the register option.
- You will receive an OTP on your registered Mobile Number through SMS
- Enter the received OTP in the registration portal to confirm the ‘New Registration’
- Finally, once the registration is completed candidates will receive registration Id and password on their registered Email Id.
Step 2: Filling of UPCATET Application Form
- After the successful registration, the applicant needs to log in with their registered Login Id and Password to proceed further.
- Once the applicant is logged in, the PM Scholarship Application Form will be opened on your screen.
- Fill in the application form with all the required details.
- Upload all the required scanned documents in JPG, JPEG, GIF, or PNG format only
- Review and recheck all the inserted details carefully, and fill in the captcha.

PMSS 2023 Renewal Process
All those applicants who are applying for PM Scholarship renewal do not need to register themselves as they have already registered. Simply follow the below-given steps to apply for PM Scholarship Renewal:

- On the homepage of the website, click on the Login option followed by Apply for Renewal option.
- Enter your registered Application Id, Password and Captcha.

PM Scholarship Scheme 2023 Selection Criteria
The management of the Welfare and Rehabilitation Board, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India shortlists the serious and deserving applicants for PM Scholarship on the basis of various categories and they are as follows:
- Category A: The children and widows of CAPFs and AR soldiers killed in action are given priority.
- Category B: The children of ex-CAPFs and AR troops who were disabled in combat are given second priority.
- Category C: The children and widows of deceased CAPFs & AR personnel who died during their duty for reasons related to government service are given third priority.
- Category D: Ex-CAPFs and AR personnel’s children who become disabled while serving to government service are granted priority.
- Category E: Additionally, children of Ex-CAPFs and AR soldiers who have obtained heroism awards are given preference.
- Category F: Children of Ex-CAPFs and AR personnel will also be given priority.
- Category G: Children of serving CAPFs and AR personnel (PBOR) will be given preference, subject to scholarship
- Apart from the above categories’ children of the State Police personnel who got killed in Naxal or Terrorist assaults would also be given priority.
PM Scholarship Scheme 2023 Rewards
The Welfare and Rehabilitation Board, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India shortlists the serious and deserving applicants every year to provide them with the PM Scholarship so that they could continue their studies and fulfill their dreams. The reward of PM Scholarship earlier only Rs.2,250/- i.e., two thousand two hundred fifty rupees for female candidates and Rs.2,000/- i.e., two thousand rupees for male candidates but now the reward amount has been increased by the administration to Rs.3,000/- i.e., three thousand rupees for female candidates per month and Rs.2,500/- i.e., two thousand five hundred rupees to male candidates per month. Once the administration shortlists the candidates for the scholarship, the payment is directly transferred to their registered bank accounts via ECS.
