The ministry’s 2 separate departments, the Department of School Education & Literacy, and the Department of Higher Education work together to efficiently contribute to the country’s socio-economic growth. Under the cultural exchange program, the MHRD provides external scholarships in partnership with the governments of several countries. The deadline for the central sector scheme under the MHRD Scholarship is November 30th, 2021. Objectives of MHRD Scholarship

Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, Merit Cum Means, and Minority scholarships are all offered by the MHRD to deserving students. The ministry offers several MHRD Scholarships to help school and college students with financial needs. The entire number of scholarships is distributed among the State Education Boards based on the number of students qualifying from different boards around the country between the ages of 18 and 25. Scholarships are distributed in a 3:2:1 ratio by the State Education Board among Science, Commerce, and Humanities graduates.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship is different for different types of scholarship. The applicants applying for this scholarship must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College and University studentsThe applicant must be enrolled in a regular medical or engineering program at an AICTE/ DCI/ MCI-affiliated institution. The individual’s total annual family income must not exceed INR 8,00,000 from all sources. In class 12, students must have qualified with at least 80% of marks. Applicants who are already receiving a scholarship are not eligible to apply. Applicants who are pursuing their education via distance learning or correspondence are not eligible to apply for the MHRD scholarship in India.
Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for Jammu KashmirThe applicant must be a resident of Jammu Kashmir. Candidates willing to study outside Jammu & Kashmir are also eligible to apply. Applicant must have qualified class 12/ 10+3, a diploma from the J&K board, CBSE, or J&K state polytechnic. The annual family income of the candidate must not exceed INR 8,00,000 from all sources.
National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE)The applicant must be a girl child belonging to SC/ ST studying in class 9. Applicant must be pursuing studies from a government/ local-body/ government-aided school. The applicant must have qualified for the class 8 examination from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya. The applicant must be unmarried and below the age of 16.
National Means cum Merit ScholarshipThe MHRD scholarship is open for candidates studying in class 9 to continue their studies until class 10th-12th. The annual family income of the applicant must not exceed INR 1,50,000 from all sources. The applicant must have scored a minimum of 55% of marks in the class 8th examination (5% marks relaxation to SC/ ST students).To appear for the selection test for the scholarship, the candidate must have passed with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent in class 7th.
Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF)Applicants studying in the first year or completing BTech, MTech, or integrated MSc from IIT / NIT/ IISc/ IISER can apply. Applicants admitted through JEE/ UCEED/ KYPY/ SCB can also apply to the MHRD scholarship. Applicants who have completed the course in the past five years are also eligible to apply.
Commonwealth Scholarships in the United KingdomApplicants who have completed or are about to complete their undergraduate/ postgraduate degree can apply to the MHRD commonwealth scholarship. The applicant must not be more than 40 years of age. They must have qualified with a minimum of 65% marks in Science and 60% in Social Science. The applicant must be enrolled in an MPhil degree which leads to a Ph.D. at a UK university.
AICTE Pragati Scholarship for GirlsGirl candidates must have taken admission in the first year of a diploma/ degree program from an AICTE recognized college could apply to an MHRD higher education scholarship. The annual family income of the candidate must not exceed INR 8,00,000. For each family, only two girls are eligible to apply.
AICTE Saksham Scholarship SchemeDifferently abled candidates with a disability level of not less than 40% can apply. The annual family income of the applicant must not exceed INR 8,00,000. Candidates must have taken admission in the first year of a technical degree/ diploma course at an AICTE recognized college.
Chinese Government ScholarshipsThe scholarship is open for the undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, general scholar, and senior scholar level of studies. Undergraduate candidates must have qualified class 12 with a minimum of 60% marks and less than 25 years of age. General scholars must have completed at least two years of their undergraduate studies with 65% marks and below 45 years of age. Postgraduate candidates must have qualified at the undergraduate level with at least 60% marks and less than 35 years of age. Doctoral-level candidates must have passed postgraduation with at least 60% marks and should be less than 40 years of age. Senior scholars should be associate professors or have a postgraduate degree with at least 60% marks and below 60 years of age.
New Zealand Commonwealth ScholarshipsStudents willing to study in New Zealand can apply. The applicant must have scored a minimum of 65% marks in undergraduate/ postgraduate courses.
Mexican Government ScholarshipsThe MHRD scholarship is open for specialisation/ Master’s degree/ doctorate/ graduate-level research.The applicant should hold a bachelor’s/Masters’s/PhD degree with a GPA of 80 on 100. The students must have enrolled in a course from any one of the participating institutions. 
South Korean Government ScholarshipsThis MHRD scholarship scheme is open for the postgraduate/ doctoral/postdoctoral level of studies. For the postgraduation level, the candidate should hold a graduation degree and must be below 40 years of age. For the doctoral level, the applicant should hold a postgraduation degree and must be below 40 years of age. The candidate should hold a doctoral degree/ diploma for the postdoctoral level and must be below 45 years of age.Biotechnology/ electronic engineering candidates must have secured at least 65% marks in the last qualifying examination.
Japanese Government ScholarshipsThis MHRD scholarship for Ph.D. students is open for research-level, master-level, and Ph.D. degrees. The scholarship applies to Humanities, Social Science, Management studies, Mathematical Science, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, physics, etc. The applicant should be less than 35 years of age. For a master’s degree and research level, the candidate must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 65% marks. For a Ph.D. degree, the applicant must have a master’s degree with a minimum of 65% marks in the relevant field.
Italian Government ScholarshipsThe MHRD scholarship is open for pursuing a Master’s degree/Ph.D./ Research/ Italian language and culture courses. For a Masters’ level of studies, the applicant should be a graduate from India below 28. For the Ph.D. level, the candidate must meet the qualification and entry requirement of the Italian University along with their acceptance letter and should be less than 30 years of age. For the research level, the applicant should submit the research project and the admission letter and be less than 40 years of age. For the Italian language and culture courses, the candidate should submit a proficiency certificate in the Italian language.
Presidential Scholarships, Sri LankaCandidates pursuing graduation courses except Engineering/ Dentistry/ Medicine can apply. The age of the applicant should be less than 25 years.
Israel Government ScholarshipsStudents who hold a letter of acceptance from an Israeli university/ supervisor can apply to this MHRD scholarship.He/ she must have a master’s degree in research/specialization in Chemistry/ Biology/ Agriculture/ Economics/ Biotechnology/ Environment studies/ Business management/ mass communication.For the Hebrew language and Literature course, the applicant should be pursuing postgraduation in the same subject. Proficiency in the English/ Hebrew language is a must. 
Brazilian Government ScholarshipsThe applicant should be 18-25 years of age. They must have passed class 12 with a minimum of 60% marks overall and at least 60% in English subjects. Students studying in class 12 can also apply provided they submit the final mark sheet and board certificate during enrollment at a Brazilian university. Proficiency in the Portuguese language is also a must.
Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial FellowshipCandidates who maintain a uniform academic record with at least a 60% postgraduation level with a Ph.D. in the same field can apply for the fellowship. Scholars between the age of 30-40 years can apply. Students should incline History/ Political Science/ Economics. The candidates must have teaching experience of at least three years at the graduate/ postgraduate level after completing a Ph.D.

Application Process for the MHRD Scholarship 2021-22
