This formal document assures that an applicant’s relocation to a foreign country goes smoothly. The Passport and Visa Division of the Ministry of External Affairs have assigned the Consular with the responsibility of administering passport services and issuing passports to Indian residents. Furthermore, a passport serves as an official document that serves as proof of identity and address, allowing its owner to access a variety of government and private services. Objectives of Tatkal Passport
A Tatkal Passport Application, as compared to a Regular Passport Application, means rapid verification and processing. Passports are given under this plan within 1-3 days of the applicant completing the necessary documentation at the Passport Seva Kendra. This method ensures you not only an early consultation but also faster processing through a different queue. This would also be based on the individual’s police verification status. The passport will be sent within 1 working day of the application being submitted if the application does not require police verification.
Passport Application Types
There are two types of Passport Applications. The processing times for the two modes are different. The Tatkal passport application is done much faster than a regular passport application. The two types of passports are as follows:
- Normal mode Passport
- Tatkal mode Passport
- Normal Mode Passport
In the normal procedure, an application will take 30 to 60 days to process. In this approach, you would simply need to give proof of current address and date of birth unless your situation is complicated. When an application requires a regular application process and is not under a time constraint, regular passport applications are commonly filed.
- Tatkal Mode Passport
In most cases, a Tatkal passport application is processed in three to seven days. The documentation needs, on the other hand, are significantly higher than in normal mode. Individuals who choose the Tatkal option usually need to pay an extra fee for their applications to be processed faster. Individuals who desire new passports, as well as renewals of current or expired passports, can use the Tatkal process. The procedure for acquiring a passport under the tatkal program is the same. This service, however, is only available to citizens who have a solid reason for needing a passport instantly.
Eligibility Criteria
Under this approach, the jurisdictional passport office has the last decision on passport issuing. This would be determined by the applicant’s urgency as well as other relevant reasons. The Tatkal system does not allow applicants in the following categories to apply for or reapply for a passport.

- A person who has obtained Indian citizenship by naturalisation or registration.
