The Tamil Nadu state government has launched Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme to provide financial assistance to all the women citizens of the state. Under this Scheme, the government will improve the living standards of all the selected applicants by providing financial assistance to all the financially unstable women citizens of the Tamil Nadu state. Women will be able to meet their daily expenses by getting financial assistance through this scheme. All the women who meet the eligibility criteria can visit the official website and submit the application form.
Reopening of Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai
The Tamil Nadu State Government will start receiving new Applications under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme from 29th May 2025. Now this Scheme will allow the ineligible women of Tamil Nadu state or the women citizens who were unable to apply during the initial stage to apply and avail the benefits. Under this Scheme, all the women citizens of the selected state will get financial assistance of Rs 1,000. Currently, a total of 1.14 women citizens of Tamil Nadu state are receiving benefits under this scheme, and 1.12 crore women citizens of the state are considered ineligible. This scheme is considered to be an effective and commendable initiative of the Tamil Nadu government towards women empowerment.

The Objective of Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme
The main objective of launching the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme is to economically empower the women of the Tamil Nadu state by providing them financial assistance. Under this Scheme, the selected applicants will be given financial assistance of Rs 1,000 by the government. The financial assistance received through the scheme will be transferred directly to the bank account of the selected applicant.
With the help of this scheme, the social status of the women of the state will be strengthened and they will get an opportunity to live a life with dignity. Through this scheme, the government promotes the participation of women and takes an important step towards giving them equal rights in the family and society.

Financial Assistance
- The financial assistance of Rs 1,000 will be given to the selected applicant under this Scheme.
Eligibility Criteria
- To avail the benefits of this scheme, the woman must be a permanent resident of Tamil Nadu.
- The annual income of the female applicant’s family should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh.
- Only female citizens are eligible to apply under this Scheme.
- The female citizen should have less than 5 acres of irrigated land or less than 10 acres of non-irrigated land.
Ineligibility Criteria
- If any of the family members of the applicant applying to avail the benefits under this scheme belongs to any of the following categories, then the applicant from that family will not be eligible to get the benefits of the scheme:
- Families with income above Rs 2.5 lakh will be ineligible to avail the scheme.
- Families whose annual income is above Rs 2.5 lakh and pay professional tax.
- Families who file income tax returns and pay income tax and have annual income above Rs 2.5 lakh.
- State and Union Government employees/employees of public sector undertakings/employees of banks, boards, local government bodies, employees of cooperative societies, and their pensioners.

- Elected people’s representatives (except ward members of the village council).
