Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana 2024

To help the farmers of the country, the Pradhan Mantri has launched the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and through the development of this scheme, insurance will be provided to the farmers in case of crop failure due to any natural calamity. If the crop is damaged due to natural calamity then the amount of insurance will be provided to the beneficiaries. If the farmers want to take the insurance then they will have to pay 2% of their Kharif crop and 1.5% of their Ravi crop to the insurance company and they will be eligible for the insurance benefits. Benefits Of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana

There are a lot of benefits that will be provided to the farmers of India through the development of the scheme and it is said that around 500000 farmers will be benefited through this scheme by the end of 31st July 2021. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana was originally launched in the year 2016 and since then it has been providing insurance to the farmers on the loss of crops due to natural calamities. The farmers can get insurance for their crops irrespective of the nature of the crop however the insurance is only available on the loss due to natural calamities rather than the loss due to man-made disasters. 

Objectives of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana

There are a lot of objectives fulfilled through the development of Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana and the main objective is to provide support to the farmers of the country. The farmers will be able to get over their financial differences which are caused by the destruction of the crops due to natural calamities. The farmers will be able to get financial support and they will be able to carry on their life rather than thinking about the destroyed crops due to natural calamities. Many times the crops are destroyed due to natural calamities and insurance is not provided to the farmers but through the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the insurance will be provided directly into the bank account of the beneficiaries.

PMFBY Features

  • Every year around 5.5 crore farmers are registered under the Fasal Bima Yojana.
  • Till now, claims worth Rs. 90000 crore under this scheme have been settled through Aadhaar seeding. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, Rs 8741.30 crore has been provided to 70 lakh farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
  • Under this scheme, the additional premium amount is paid by the State and Government of India, and in the North-Eastern States, the Government of India provides 90% of the premium amount.
  • Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the sum insured has been increased to Rs 40,700, which was earlier Rs 15,100 per hectare.
  • The entire time from sowing to harvesting is covered under the scheme. Stopped sowing and loss due to natural calamities between crops have also been included under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana 
  • Improvements have been made from time to time to make the scheme flexible.

Implementation Of The Scheme

  • First of all, drone surveillance will be done for damages. 
  • Initially, this campaign will be run in 100 districts, but if it is successful and gets good results, then the government will work towards increasing the surveillance of drones in the rest of the parts as well. 
  • The most consequential advantage of monitoring crops by drones would be that it would save time. 
  • Earlier, the team used to come for the survey of the ruined crops, which had inspected and submitted its report which took many days. 
  • The farmers will be getting compensation at a much faster rate as compared to the previous implementation procedures. 
  • These drones will be very high-tech and will have many types of sensors. 
  • By recording the complete information on the crops, the real data is sent to the Agriculture Department.
  • The permission to install this drone has been given for only 1 year. 
  • First of all, the premium amount will be deducted from the bank account of the beneficiaries and then the insurance money will be provided to them after the crop damage.

Additions Under The Scheme

  • If farmers want to take wildlife cover under Pradhanmantri Fasal Bima Yojana, then the premium will have to be paid by the farmers only. However, the state government is contemplating providing additional subsidies for this coverage.
  • A detailed protocol and procedure for the evaluation of bids have been prepared by the Government in consultation with the Insurance Company and MoEFCC.
  • It has also been pointed out by the forest officials that the state had already provided crop damage compensation to the farmers. Now as per the suggestion received by various states, the loss caused by wild animals has also been included in the guidelines of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. The move has also been recommended by a panel set up to prevent crop damage in Maharashtra.

Premium Payment

If you want to get the loan under this scheme then you will have to pay the premium according to the following premium amount percentage:-

  • 2% premium of the sum insured, for Kharif crop
  • The premium of 1.5% of Sum Assured for Rabi Crop
  • 5% premium of the sum insured, for annual commercial and horticultural crops.

PMFBY Eligibility Criteria

To apply under the Fasal Bima Yojana launched by the Central Government, you have to follow the following eligibility criteria:-

  • Under this scheme, all the farmers in the country can apply online.
  • Those farmer brothers who are already taking benefit of any type of crop insurance scheme are not eligible for this scheme.
  • Farmers can also get the benefit of ensuring the crop in the event of their agricultural land or being a sharecropper.

If you want to claim your insurance money then you can do so by following the step by step claim procedure given below:-

  • First of all, the farmer has to inform the insurance company, bank,or state government official about the damage caused to the crop.
  • After this, the farmer has to contact the toll-free number and it is mandatory to inform him about the loss within 72 hours.
  • If you have reported the loss to someone other than the insurance company, you must ensure that they pass this information on to the insurance company as soon as possible.
  • When your complete information reaches the insurance company, the insurance company will appoint a loss assessor within 72 hours.
  • Within the next 10 days, you will assess the damage done to the crop and determine the damage.
  • After this successful process, the sum assured will be transferred to your account by the insurance company within 15 days.
