What Do You Mean By e RUPI?
E RUPI is developed to make possible cashless and contactless payments in India. It is a type of digital payment that will ensure that the payment is done without any credit or debit card or mobile application or internet banking. The platform will help to connect the beneficiaries to the service providers without any physical interference between both of them. The platform will work on a gift voucher-based system. There will be the existence of prepaid gift vouchers that can be redeemed at specific accepting locations without any interference from other payment mediums. The vouchers will be delivered to the mobile phone of the beneficiaries in the form of an SMS string or a QR code.
How Does e RUPI Work?
E RUPI is developed on a UPI basis and a list of banks are selected who will be the issuing entities in this procedure. For issuing the vouchers, the Government or any Cooperative agency will have to approach any of the banks present in the list of banks available to issue these vouchers with the details of the beneficiaries and the purpose for which the payment has to be made by the beneficiary. The details of the beneficiary must include their mobile number. The bank will then send a voucher to the beneficiaries by the name given by the concerned authorities. In this way, the beneficiary will be able to use their voucher.
Uses Of e RUPI
There are many different uses of the platform as said by the Government and one of the main benefits of using this type of medium is to ensure your leak-proof delivery of the welfare services which are run by the Government to benefit the various societies of the country. The platform can also be used for delivering services under the welfare schemes for providing drugs and nutritional supports under mother and child welfare schemes, TB eradication programs, drugs & diagnostics under schemes like Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, fertilizer subsidies etc. Private sectors can also use this digital voucher to give welfare schemes to their employees and do all of the other corporate social responsibilities.
Benefits Of e RUPI
This digital payment system will be helping the country to develop a central bank digital currency and it will also fill the gaps between the digital payment infrastructure already present in the country. This will be a step towards the development of a future digital currency and the system is also backed up by an Indian rupee that’s why it is different from any other virtual payment method available in the country as of today. It is a closer version to the voucher-based payment system and one of its kind. E RUPI will be a digital form of the existing currency of India, the rupee. The people will be able to use vouchers to do their payments and it will be dependent upon the Indian rupee and not on any other online payment system which includes using your credit card or debit card.
