The Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved a new Central Scheme “PM Vishwakarma” with a financial outlay of ₹ 13,000 crore for a period of 5 years from 2024 to 2027. The scheme emphasises sustainability, self-reliance and inclusive growth, especially for individuals living in rural and deprived areas. By boosting the income and identity of artisans, the scheme is expected to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
PM Vishwakarma Yojana 2024
Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana is an initiative of the Government of India aimed at empowering traditional artisans and craftsmen, often referred to as “Vishwakarma“. It attempts to provide the right kind of training to the artisans involved in the working sector so that they can start their own business with low-interest loans. The government is providing assistance of ₹15,000, free training, and certificates under this scheme. Additionally, the scheme encourages these workers to connect with broader, even global, markets, thereby increasing their earning potential.

Benefits and features
- Financial assistance in the form of ₹15,000 will be provided to the eligible beneficiaries by this scheme.
- Various types of free training will be provided to the artisans to make them more efficient at work.
- During the period of training, a daily allowance of ₹500 will be provided to each beneficiary to enhance their economic condition.
- Those who want to take a loan are entitled to up to ₹3 lakh with an interest of 5%. The loan will be given in two instalments. The first instalment is of ₹1 lakh and the second instalment is of ₹2 lakh.
- The applicant can apply online or offline in a very simple and easy way and the number of beneficiaries increases.
- Under this scheme, around 18 categories are covered, which includes carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, weavers, bronze smiths, potters and many others who are either artisans or craftsmen.
- After undergoing the training, they will be given a certificate because after this, their efficiency and skill will advance in their business.

Eligibility Criteria for PM Vishwakarma Yojana
- Caste certificate must be present with the candidate along with an identity card.
- This benefit will be limited to citizens of India only.
- Applicants must be a craftsman or skilled artisan.
- Under this arrangement, about more than 140 communities form the Vishwakarma community.
