Prime Minister Kusum Yojana is to provide solar power pumps for irrigation to the farmers of the country. The Central Government and the State Government of Rajasthan state will be converting petrol and diesel irrigation pounds to solar energy firms to provide irrigation facilities to the beneficiaries who are not able to afford proper irrigation facilities to water their farms in India. A target is set by the State Government of the Rajasthan state to provide solar pumps and convert diesel pumps and agricultural useful pumps to solar pumps. A rupees 50000 crore budget is allocated by the concerned authorities of the Rajasthan state to provide these pumps.

Implementation Procedure Of Kusum Yojana
The Solar Power Plant will be set up under the scheme by following the following implementation procedure:-
- The concerned department will issue a letter of authorization to the SPG for setting up a solar power plant.
- It is mandatory to set up a solar power plant within 9 months from the date of issue of the letter of authorization.
- Penalty will have to be paid if the solar power plant is not installed within this period.
- This penalty will be levied as per the terms of the PPA.
- The solar power plant must maintain at least a 15% annual capacity utilization factor during the PPA period.
- If the Capacity Utilization Factor is less than 15%, then in this case compensation will have to be given.
- If the documents submitted by the SPG are found to be incorrect the application is liable to be rejected at any stage.
Features Of Kusum Yojana
Below we have shared the details regarding the different types of components that will be available under this scheme:-
- Component A
- The first component will include 10,000 MW of decentralized renewable energy power plants which are grid-connected on barren land
- These grids will be set up by farmers, cooperatives, groups of farmers, panchayats, Water User Associations (WUA), and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO)
- Power projects will be set up within a radius of 5 km of the sub-station
- Component B
- The second component will include stand-alone solar agriculture pumps worth Rs. 17.50 lakh
- The capacity of the pumps will be up to 7.5 HP for the replacement of existing diesel agriculture pumps
- The capacity can be higher than 7.5 HP but financial support will only be provided until a 7.5 HP capacity
- Component C
- The third component will include 10 lakh grid-connected agriculture pumps.
- The individual farmers will be supported to solarize the pumps.
- Extrasolar power will be sold to Distribution Companies of India (DISCOMs) at a pre-fixed tariff
- Farmer’s irrigation needs shall be met by using the generated solar power

Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must follow the following eligibility criteria while applying for this scheme:-
- The applicant must be a permanent resident of India.
- Under Kusum Yojana, the applicant can apply for a solar power plant of 0.5 MW to 2 MW capacity.
- The applicant can apply for 2 MW capacity in proportion to his land or the capacity notified by the distribution corporation (whichever is less).
- About 2 hectares of land would be required per MW.
- No financial qualification is required for the project with its investment under this scheme.
- If the project is being developed by the applicant through a developer, then the developer must have a net worth of Rs 1 crore per MW.
