About Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam Scheme 

Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam Scheme is a social welfare initiative started by the Government of Tamil Nadu to provide permanent housing to homeless citizens. To finance this scheme, the state government has allocated a budget of ₹3500 crores.

Under this scheme, the government will improve the living conditions of the economically weaker and needy families of the state and provide them safe houses. The aim of this scheme is to make the state hut free. This scheme will provide material and money to the beneficiaries to build houses

Objective of Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam scheme

  • The main objective of the Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam scheme is to make the state hut-free and build decent houses for the financially unstable citizens of the state. Under this housing scheme, beneficiaries will be provided with material and money to build houses.
  • According to the survey, about 8 lakh huts exist. If the beneficiaries are landless, they will be given land. Money will be given to them for construction material and other items. Everyone has the right to a house in which he can live peacefully with his family.
  • Next year, one million new houses will be built in the first phase at a cost of Rs 3.50 lakh. Families who are living in huts will finally have their own house. Many families have got a house through this scheme.

  • The beneficiaries of this housing scheme will get the necessary material and money to build a house.
  • The Tamil Nadu Finance Minister announced a plan to eliminate slums in the region by 2030. He claimed that eight lakh concrete houses will be built in rural areas under this scheme. This initiative with a budget of ₹3,500 crore will be implemented next year. Now poor people will be able to build their dream house and live a peaceful life.
  • The first phase of the project, which will cost ₹3.50 lakh per house, will be completed next year. The hut-dwelling families will finally have their own homes.

  • The applicant must be a resident of Tamil Nadu.
  • The candidates will be selected based on the eligibility criteria of the scheme.
  • Applicants should not have a brick and cement house to avail the benefits of this scheme.
